Catherine Ann Hardaway

December 17, 1935 — February 19, 2026

Catherine Ann Hardaway passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born in East Rochester, New York on December 17, 1935, to Charles Kearns and Dora Sexton Kearns. After her mother died, Catherine moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to live with her sister, Alice. It was at a local bunny hop dance in Bossier City, that she met the love of her life, Winston Wayne Hardaway. His love for Cathy, as he called her, was evident to all who knew them.

She worked as a secretary for several years with Associated Milk Producers, Inc. and Frontier Enterprises. Cathy and Winston were blessed to retire early and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially to Colorado. She liked shopping for anything but clothes and looked forward to regular trips to Walmart with her daughter-in-law, never missing an opportunity to interact with every baby she saw while there! But all these paled in comparison to her true passion in life…spending time with her family, only made better when the dogs were there too.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 65 years; her three siblings - Alice Kearns Beckwith, Bill Kearns and Jim Kearns; and her miniature poodle, Bambi. Cathy is survived by her devoted son, Wayne Hardaway and his wife Cheri; her four grandchildren - Dustin Hardaway and his wife Ashley, Corey Hardaway and his wife Kristi, Chelsea Miller and her husband Jay, and Caitie Weaver and her husband Stefen; her great-grandchildren - William, Devin, Ella, Aiden, Noelle, Elias, Alaina, Morgan, and ‘nugget’, who will be blessing the family later this year. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charlie Hardaway and his wife Peggy; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends; as well as her ‘furbabies’ - Sugar Bear, Stella and Roake.

Cathy was private and humble, she managed to keep a pulse on everyone and everything, all while exuding beauty and confidence. She always said what was on her mind and would often finish her stories with her well-known “blah-diddy, blah-diddy, blah, blah, blah,” or her other favorite, “But that’s a story for another time.” We will forever miss her and are thankful for the many memories made.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009 in Schertz, Texas.
