Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Carol Chriswell of Schertz, Texas, entered into eternal life on September 14th, 2023, surrounded by family at the age of 82. Carol was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1940 to Wayne Clifford and Beulah Mae Kimes. She was the oldest of 5 girls. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas in May 1956. She graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1958. In 1959, she married Dow Oliver Chriswell, they were married for 11 years and together had two daughters: Dian Alane and Debra Lynn.
Carol retired in 1998 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 30+ years of service in the accounting department. During her tenure, she was at the forefront of a very exciting time of every changing technology. She was a longtime member of the San Antonio Hermann Sons Lodge and lived in the retirement home in Comfort, Texas for a few years and then moved to Schertz, Texas.
She loved to travel, especially cruises, loved to help others and spend time with her family and friends. She often emphasized that the greatest gift she could ever receive was spending time with her family on those special occasions that meant so much to her. Carol's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Dian Alane Altman; parents, Wayne Clifford and Beulah Mae Kimes; sisters, Jean Hemby and Jane Dupree. She is survived by daughter Debra (Debbie) Ludwig and husband Rodney of Clifton, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Altman of Schertz, Texas, Meagan Perry with husband Justin of West, Texas, Corey Ludwig with fiancé Shelby Garrison of Crawford, Texas, Haley Altman of Schertz, Texas; great-granddaughters, Kaisley Perry, Darcy Perry- due in February 2024; sisters, Marylou Dryburgh of Florida, Patty Patrick with husband Michael of Cibolo, Texas; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be a Visitation held at Schertz Funeral Home on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 PM. Graveside services are pending at this time.
