"Carlos V. Guel, 76, of San Antonio, Texas, went home to the Lord on August 27, 2025, surrounded by his wife and son. Affectionately known as "Chale' " and "Pops." He was born on December 23, 1948 in Seguin, Texas, to the late Inocencio and Francisca Vasquez Guel.
Carlos was a graduate of Schertz Cibolo High School, Class of 1967, where he starred as a pitcher. Shortly after, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, where he began as an Airman First Class and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. The highlight of his time in the Air Force was participating in Richard Nixon's Presidential Inauguration, January 20, 1969. Following his service, Carlos began his career with United Parcel Service, where he retired after 30 years.
On life’s journey, Carlos was blessed to share 53 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Catalina (Cathy) G. Guel. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and faith. He was a proud father to his son, Jason M. Guel, with whom he shared his greatest joy—playing golf side by side.
Carlos also had many passions outside of work and family. He loved baseball, was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and also coached Little League. Carlos loved fishing, and enjoyed the thrill of the slot machines at the casinos. After retirement, Carlos looked forward to his weekly golf outings with his buddies. He cherished his monthly breakfasts with his cousins and also with his fellow UPS retirees, where laughter, stories, and friendship filled the table. Above all, Carlos lived a life guided by strong faith, which carried him through every season of life and gave him peace in his final days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Inocencio and Francisca Guel; his sister, Patsy Bermea; and his beloved dog, Moses. Carlos is survived by his cherished wife, Catalina; his son, Jason; his brother, Steven Guel (Kathryn); his aunt, Mary Vasquez; along with many cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews who will always carry his memory in their hearts.
Carlos will be remembered as a gentle, caring, and loving man whose kindness, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. His legacy of devotion and unwavering love will continue to live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. Carlos never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh.
The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU at North East Baptist Hospital for their compassionate care and support."
A Visitation will be held for Carlos from 5:00PM - 8:00PM, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Schertz, Texas. Interment, featuring United States Airforce Honors, will begin at 1:15PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery - Shelter 2.
