Bertie Jones

July 26, 1935 — February 8, 2021

Bertie Jones, 85, of Universal City went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2021. She was born on July 26, 1935 in Lubbock, Texas, to Earnie and Euna Shaw. She graduated from Lubbock High School and after she raised her daughter earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southwest Texas State University graduating summa cum laude in 1980. She worked as a civilian employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Air Force for 34 years. She moved to Universal City in 1980 and was active in the community and a member of First Baptist Church Universal City.

Bertie was loving referred to as “BowTee” by her granddaughter and grandson and soon everyone knew her as BowTee. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved her pets, watching game shows, playing cards and board games, watching Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals and playing dominoes with the ladies in her Sunday School class. Most of all, she loved her family and family gatherings. She was an avid spectator at her granddaughter and grandson’s various sporting activities, stock shows and school programs. She was their biggest cheer leader.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandy and husband James Pyott of Seguin; granddaughter, Caradee and husband Joshua (Josh) Trejo of Kyle; grandson, Cason Pyott of Universal City; great grandsons, Emerson and Jameson Trejo; great granddaughter, Evelyn Trejo; sister-in-law, Gwen Shaw of Irvine CA; niece Wendy Weston and family of Irvine, CA; and cousin Betsy Heald of Santa Rosa CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Earnie Shaw, Jr. and R. Preston Shaw; and nephew Marshall Shaw.

The family would like to thank the staff at Esplanade Gardens and Holy Savior Hospice. We are forever grateful for the love and care you have given her especially during the time we could not be there.  Alzheimer’s and dementia may have taken her voice but, her spirit will live on forever.
