Bernard Gaskin

Bernard Gaskin was born on September 12, 1954, in San Antonio, TX, to Leroy and Doris Gaskin.  He was the youngest of four siblings: Betty, Leroy, and Leon.

He attended and graduated from Cuney Elementary, Douglas Junior High and Brackenridge High School. In high school, he met his love, Renette Thomas.  Their love story begins as two teenagers going to games, dances, and the movies.  They dated for 9 years before marrying on August 9, 1980.  Their love story spanned 51 years and included the birth of two boys, Christopher, and Bryant and four grandchildren: Linsey, Xavier, Giovanni, and Lorenzo.

Bernard started his professional career in 1974 at Southwestern Bell and devoted 44 years of service in the telecommunications industry, retiring in 2016 from AT&T.   He worked in various positions in and out of the field and felt his most rewarding accomplishments during his employment was helping others learn and understand the trade.  He and Renette enjoyed retirement life together and are very active in helping to raise their four grandchildren.

Bernard and Renette attend New Covenant Missionary Baptist church under Dr. Paul D. Stevens, where Bernard served on the user board.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Renette, his sons Christopher (Roxanne), Bryant (Eva), his four grandchildren Linsey, Xavier, Giovanni, and Lorenzo, his three siblings Betty (James), Leroy (Jackie) and Leon (Caryl), his three in-laws Sharon, Geraldine, Osborne and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Funeral Service for Bernard will take place at Schertz Funeral Home on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 12:00 PM, with the Visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
