Alton Usaf

Alton R. Gentry, C/MSGT USAF (retired), went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2010 at the age of 82. A long-time resident of Universal City, Al was born in Ponotoc, Mississippi on June 7, 1928 and was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Grace Gentry, Sister Elsie, and Brothers Bernice, James, Novel and Bonnie. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Gentry, daughter Kimberly Harm & husband Timothy, sister, Clestine Newall, of Tupelo, Mississippi and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Al served in the United States Air Force for 28 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1973 after tours in Vietnam, Thailand, Korea and Puerto Rico and as a traveling aide to General Curtis LeMay. After retirement, Al went on to work for Modular Home Builders and Buell Wholesale nursery, a job he loved as it provided him the opportunity to meet new people and spread his special brand of humor. Al truly never met a stranger as he treated everyone like old friends and he always saw the good in people. We will all miss him dearly. A viewing will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Friday, October 29th, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 17501 Nacogdoches Road in San Antonio, Texas. A memorial funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 8102 Midcrown at Walzem in San Antonio, Texas with a reception to follow. Flowers may be sent to Schertz Funeral Home at 2217 F.M. 3009 in Schertz, Texas or donations may be sent in Als honor to the Esther Young Scholarship Fund at John Calvin Presbyterian Church.
