Albert “Al” N. Rowlett, age 88 of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with his Lord on July 31, 2023. He was born in Graham, Texas, on August 15, 1934. Al will be remembered as a loving husband, caring father, playful grandpa, and a kind-hearted friend to many.
Al met the love of his life and best friend, Ruth Reus, at Hondo High School. After graduating, Al joined the U.S. Army and received orders to Germany. Al and Ruth were married in 1953 and the adventures started. After serving during the Korean conflict, he attended Southwest Texas Junior college and earned his college degree from the University of Missouri at Maryville. He worked for the Texas Highway Department and then with Mumme’s, Inc. of Hondo as a General Manager. In 1971, until his retirement, Al was in the life insurance business where he served many personal clients and built successful sales organizations in San Antonio, south Texas, and several other states. He proudly earned many awards and honors in the industry.
Al’s hobbies included woodworking and acting as assistant manager to Ruth in all her backyard beautification projects. He took the greatest pride in spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren making sure they were adequately spoiled.
Throughout his life, Al was deeply committed to his faith, family, and community. He served as councilman for the City of Hondo, President of the Hondo Band Boosters, President of the Hondo Little League Association, Director of the St. Paul Lutheran Church choir, as well as many committees at Concordia Lutheran Church and various other community organizations.
Al is survived by children, Pamela Hare, Mike Rowlett (Teresa), Gary Rowlett (Diane), six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Margie Notter, Ruby Cook, Annie Wurzbach (Robert) and Cornelia Moses, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Al is preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth, his parents Ambross and Maudie Rowlett, son-in-law Randall Hare, and one brother.
A celebration of life will take place on August 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas. The family is invited to the interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
