Agnes McNeil, 94, of Schertz, TX quietly passed away in her home on April 30, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born December 21, 1930 in Tunica, Mississippi to James and Ada Malone. She was the youngest of four children.
Agnes met Theodore McNeil while attending Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. The two were married October 26, 1947. Their union was blessed with eight children. They traveled from Tennessee, through Ohio, to Chicago, settling in Los Angeles, California in 1966. They were later divorced but remained friends. Agnes made her final move to Schertz, Texas in 2004.
Agnes completed nursing school while living in Chicago, but decided on a different career track. She remained in the medical field managing medical clinics for over twenty-five years--eighteen with Cigna Medical. After retiring she volunteered with the Red Cross before returning to the workforce as a Macy’s department store employee for nine years. After moving to Texas, she joined Resurrection Baptist Church and was active in the Information, Hospitality and Senior Saints ministries. Agnes also enjoyed a part-time role at McDonalds and volunteering at both the Majestic and Tobin Theaters. She connected with people everywhere she went and made lasting friends along the way.
Throughout her life Agnes was known for her unwavering love and support of not just those related by blood, but she embraced the friends of her children, and made them family as well. She had a strong work ethic, a love of fashion, and a deep love for the Lord. She lived a full life doing the things she enjoyed most – traveling, reading western stories, playing games, and attending plays & fashion shows.
Agnes is preceded in death by her daughter Sarah Victoria McNeil Higashi (Teruhiko “Terry”), sons Michael McNeil and James Kevin McNeil, granddaughter Shataira Davis, and grandson Sheldon McNeil. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Gloria Jean Morris, Lawrence McNeil, Gwendolyn Johnson Houston (Norman), Paul McNeil, and Kimberly Wallace Whitaker (Kevin); twelve grandchildren: Keith McNeil (Lisa), Michael Anthony Whitlock, Lawrence Allen McNeil Jr. (Niki), Donnelle McNeil (Lila), David Johnson, Dr. Candice McNeil Cowley (Philip), Rachel Houston McKinstry (Quinton), Sai Higashi, Cora McNeil Miller (Stefan), Mychal Gradford (Amy), James McNeil Jr., and Ahmad Shannon; fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, numerous extended family members, and beloved friends.
