Stanley Wallace

January 23, 1943 — May 15, 2016

Stanley "Stan" L. Wallace passed away in his home in Schertz, Texas, on May 15, 2016. In the moment of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife and all four of his children. He was 73 years old. In his full life, Stan proudly served his country, his community, and his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Rosemary Wallace-four children, Michael Wallace (and wife Natalie), John Wallace, Mandy Johnson (and husband Brian), and Becky Risley (and husband Greg)-three grandchildren, Kyle Knodel, Dylan Wallace, and Landon Wallace-a grandchild on the way, Little Baby Johnson-two step-grandchildren, Sam Risley and Anna Risley-and one sister, Shelia Nicholson.

Stan was born January 23, 1943, in Centralia, Illinois. He attended Sunray High School outside of Amarillo, Texas, and was beloved by his classmates, who recently celebrated their all-school reunion. Stan attended college in both Arkansas and Texas at Southwest Texas State University. He was a highway patrol officer and a charismatic radio disc jockey. He also worked for a television station in the 1960s in Dallas, where he helped to cover the story of the JFK assassination. Stan served the United States military as an Army Ranger for 20 years, during which time his missions took him around the world, including Hawaii where he met Rosemary. After a whirlwind romance, the two were married in Hawaii on June 28, 1975. They raised their family in San Antonio, Texas, where Stan happily spent the rest of his life.

In his retirement, Stan could be found at his local Jim's or Jaliscos enjoying coffee with friends and strangers alike; in his garage turning wooden pens on his lathe; at a car show with his son, grandchildren, and son-in-law; at the casino with his wife; or in his home celebrating life's many occasions with Texas sheet cake. He visited and made pens for Wounded Warriors at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Stan was admired as a hero to our country; a captivating story teller; a steadfast friend; and a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
